ICT Mumbai Expert's Review and Verdict

Campus at a Glimpse

Starting with a historical overview, the erstwhile University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) laid its foundation stone in 1933, which was later converted into the University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT) in 2022. After receiving the autonomous institute status, ICT Mumbai became a Category I Deemed-to-be-University in 2008 granted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. With its main campus in Mumbai, the Institute of Chemical Technology inaugurated two satellite campuses in Bhubaneswar and Marathwada Jalna in 2018.

With a vision to become a premier university devoted to education, training, research and industrial collaboration, ICT Mumbai claims to provide a total of 76 future-driven courses in chemical engineering, chemical technology, applied chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, and allied sciences through its 13 departments and 4 Centres of Excellence. ICT Mumbai admissions are done based on merit for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes except for MBA. Admissions in MBA course is based on CAT / XAT / MAT / CMAT / GMAT / ATMA / WBJEMAT scores.

ICT Mumbai proudly holds an A++ grade with a CGPA of 3.77 out of 4 granted by NAAC in 2017. Not only that, it has received ‘Elite Status and Centre Excellence’ from Govt. of Maharashtra which the university claims to be at par with IITs and NITs. Further strengthening the statement, ICT Mumbai in its AQAR Report 2020 stated that in a survey published by Professor Jude Sommerfeld of Georgia Tech. (USA), ICT Mumbai was listed as the number 1 Institute in India 4th in Chemical Engineering worldwide.

Spread across 16 acres of land, the institute provides infrastructure facilities such as smart classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a fully automated library, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, hostels and many more. Let’s find out more about ICT Mumbai’s academia, placements, faculty, administration including several others in detail on the basis of student feedback received on the same.

Overall, in terms of the academic curriculum, ICT Mumbai academic structure is updated and as per the education policy guidelines. Students have also opined the programme structures to be at par with the global level. However, regarding batch sizes, the number of students is way higher than the approved intake. For engineering courses, the overall sanctioned intake is 716, whereas, 2051 students were enrolled. Similar is the case with pharmacy courses, a total of 112 students above the approved intake limit were granted admission. It signifies that there is no end cap in admissions.

Our Take:

Students have voiced that the hostel facilities are good, however, those opting for accommodation must compulsorily opt for mess facilities as well. Advance payment of INR 20,000 along with a refundable deposit of INR 5,000 is too high compared to the quality of food provided, they further added.

Our Take:

With a total of 816 female students, the gender ratio of ICT Mumbai is not balanced with only 36% female population. Similarly, if we look at student diversity, the percentage of students from outside Maharashtra is only 27%. The one reason that contributes to a percentage of such imbalance is that students have to pay a hefty hostel fee and also compulsorily avail the mess facilities where the food quality is said to be compromised. The institute must take steps to attain gender parity.

ICT Mumbai Faculty and Administration/Management

ICT Mumbai Mumbai claims to have a total of 136 full-time faculty members. With a total of 2,340 students, the student-to-faculty ratio currently stands at 17:1. Administration-wise, ICT Mumbai has adopted the MIS module for the smooth functioning of the administrative process.

Our Take:

Students have opined that the faculties at ICT Mumbai are well-respected and are well-versed in their respective subjects. Faculties of Chemical Engineering have received the most praise. Other departments that students have commented to have the best faculties are Food Engineering and Textiles. However, students have expressed that biometric attendance sometimes takes a toll on their heads given the hectic work overload. At last, ICT Mumbai can also do better in terms of student-faculty ratio.

ICT Mumbai Location

Nestled in Nathalal Parekh Marg, Matunga in Mumbai, ICT Mumbai located at 2VF4+GX4, Nathalal Parekh Marg, near Khalsa College, Matunga East, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400019. Well-connected by roads, air and railway, the institute is at a distance of 11 km from Mumbai Airport.

Our Take:

Students have expressed that the institute’s location is favorable and connectivity is good. Matunga is known to be one of the top 5 posh and urban places in Mumbai. There are several food joints, especially South Indian foods within a 5-minute walking distance from the institute premises.

ICT Mumbai Location

ICT Mumbai Expectation vs Reality- CLD Verdict

ICT Mumbai is one of the few institutes which have received a lot of praise from its students, especially for chemical engineering. Infrastructure-wise, ICT Mumbai provides students with the needful apart from highly equipped laboratories and smart classrooms. The hostel facilities are well-appreciated however, the students do not approve of the mess facilities.

Fee-wise, the cost of the course and the return through placements are satisfactory. Whereas, a few departments like oils, dyes, and textiles have a lot of room for improvement in placements. However, in terms of gender ratio and diversity, ICT Mumbai numbers are not favorable. In its AQAR Report, ICT Mumbai claimed to improve the following in 2023:

  • Encourage highly qualified faculty from India and abroad to apply and join ICT Mumbai.
  • Increase the IPR and technology transfer output.
  • Sign MOUs with industrial partners to facilitate internships and PhD fellowships.
  • Achieve full digitalization and enhance teaching methods and pedagogical practices.

Dear Student,

Firstly you can easily give MHT-CET even if you dont reside in Maharashtra but the catch is that if you dont have a domicile of Maharashtra then it is pointless because the Maharashtra govt allows admission to people only with Maharashtra domicile

The lucky news is that ICT Mumbai has a separate 30% quota for only jee mains candidates with no reservations

So if you wanna get into ICT just give your jee mains and fill a separate form of institution for admission under all India category

Moreover you for your knowledge for getting into ICT be ready to score at least 170–180 in your mains to get your desired branch.

You can also fill the Common Application Form on our website for admission-related assistance. You can also reach us through our IVRS Number - 1800-572-9877.
