JEE Advanced Counselling and Seat Allotment 2025 Process (Based on JoSAA)

A Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to 23 institutes for the academic year 2025-26. Admission to all the academic programmes offered by these Institutes will be made through a single platform. JoSAA is the ONLY authorised agency responsible for joint seat allocation.

JEE Advanced 2025 JoSAA Counselling: Eligibility Criteria for Admission into IITs

Eligibility for IITs and a few other technical institutes funded fully or partially by the central or state government [other GFTIs] is largely the same.

Based on the score in JEE Main exam 2025 and normalized score in Class 12th or equivalent qualifying exam (60% & 40% weightage respectively), separate rank lists will be prepared for admission to institutions other than IITs. Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions to NITs/IIITs/CFTIs/SFIs/Others.

To get considered for IITs, apart from your score/rank, the following are important:

  • You should NOT have been admitted to an IIT OR even accepted the IIT  seat by reporting at a reporting centre in the past.
  • If your admission at IITs or ISM was canceled in the past, then you are NOT eligible.
  • If you have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in 2015 can appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016. Even if you have paid the seat acceptance fee but have not accepted the seat by reporting at the reporting center during joint seat allocation in 2015, you are eligible.

The candidates should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs and ISM

  • Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST, and PwD candidates should be at least 70%.
  • Must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.
  • The detailed instructions for filling in the choices and the seat allotment procedure will be made available by JoSAA through the Seat Allotment Brochure.

The schedule of the joint seat allocation will be announced separately by JoSAA 2025. The list of courses that will be offered by the IITs and ISM for admission for the academic year 2025-26 will be made available at the time of the online filling-in of choices.
